This relationship is focused on the well-being of the pet, with both the veterinarian and the client sharing responsibilities and enjoying benefits. The VCPR represents a formal, long-term relationship between you (the client) and us (the veterinarians) and is centered around your pet.
Effective communication is a central aspect of the successful delivery of veterinary medicine. As a responsible pet owner, you will have peace of mind when you have confidence in our advice and recommendations.
Veterinarians in Ontario must have sufficient and recent knowledge of a pet in order to provide a diagnosis, offer a treatment plan, and/or prescribe/dispense medications. Sufficient and recent working knowledge of a patient is obtained through an examination, typically at least once every 12 months.
Continuity of medical care is critical for your pet. Establishing a VCPR with a veterinary hospital for primary care is important. At Brock Street Animal Hospital, providing primary care means we see a patient for routine health care needs as well as those times when a patient is unwell.
After-hours emergency care is provided through The Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham Region, 905-576-3031, The Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital 416-380-7400, and The Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital 416-247-8387.
Your trust in us is appreciated and we look forward to meeting you.
Kind regards,
Dr. Hayley King and Dr. Tim Mason
